Trip to Knoxville

We were blessed to trade the 10 hour drive from Destin to Knoxville with a 1 hour and 11 minute flight. John has an amazing partner that insisted we use his plane. JD had been sick all week and I was nervous about him being in the car for the long drive but also a little apprehensive of a commercial flight with all the germs. Alan is our guardian angel here on earth and we cannot thank him enough for making a tough situation so much easier logistically. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Davis was not nervous at all about his first flight!

Davis and his grandpa had so much fun playing. Grandpa loves to feed him too!
This is Hannah Kate and Joshua, Davis' cousins from Jackson, MS. They love him so much and have fun watching him play.
Hannah Kate, Davis and Joshua with Great Grandma Brown. Poor HK was so tired. She was delirious at this point. She asked me if I liked "Walking Apples" and laughed hysterically for 5 minutes. Even though nobody had any idea what she was talking about we thought it was the funniest thing in the world.

Sad News

Last week, John's sweet Grandpa passed away. He had been sick for a long time and he just grew tired of fighting. He was an incredible man and a hero to not only John but to our country. He led an amazing life and had a major impact on John and his family. JD is actually named in honor of him as Grandpa's name is John Dewitt. John was very excited at the opportunity for our son to carry on his grandfathers initials. We are very fortunate that we actually got to visit with Grandpa 3 weeks ago in Knoxville while he was in the hospital. John, Davis and I drove up over the weekend and spent the afternoon with him. It was very cool to introduce JD to his namesake. While Grandpa may not have realized who JD actually was... he knew there were 3 people in the room who cared very, very much for him. It was a great experience and I feel blessed we had the opportunity to spend some time with him before he passed away. Grandpa Brown will be terribly missed. Please continue to pray for the family. Thank you!

GRRRRR!!!!!!

Maybe I should say, AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! For the last few weeks, Davis has picked up a habit of growling. I'm not sure if he does it because of Fletch and Eddie growling at the UPS man or if he just likes the way it sounds. Either way, it is precious!

Weekend of Surprises

Before I share the pictures from Crab Island, I have a funny story..... If you are eating....do not read right now, haha! Saturday night, Davis had lots of surprises for his mommy and daddy. It started as a regular Saturday night. John, Davis and I were wrapping up a day from Crab Island, watching football and eating dinner. I gave Davis his bath and got him nice and cozy. I noticed a slight smell, so I went to check his diaper and sure enough he went poo poo. When I went to change him I noticed that it was allllllll over him, from head to toe. We have been very lucky that this has not happened until now so it was quite comical. I yelled for John who was snoozing on the couch to come help. I didn't know what I needed him to do, but I just wanted him there to help. For some reason, I handed him a thing of wipees and said "Here go put these in the washer, towels in dryer, stat." He was trying so hard to help, he marched down the hall, wipees in hand and then turned around and said "Jen, I'll do it, but I think you are a little confused. Why would I put the wipees in the washing machine?" We both stood at the changing table dying out laughing while Davis was still there naked as a jaybird. Once we got it together and got him cleaned up, I took him for bath number 2 of the night. I bathed him, put on his lotion and put on a new set of clothes. I brought him back into the den for his nighttime bottle. At this point I was talking to my dad, laughing about what had just happened, when all of a sudden "YUCKY!" Davis then projectile vomited all over himself, a lot!!! Bless his heart. I guess all the trips from the changing table to the tub were shaking him up a little. So needless to say, we had 3 baths Saturday night and went through 4 outfits. I think he had just swallowed too much salt water during the day and it wasn't agreeing with his little tummy. He loves splashing in the water, but will have to be more diligent about keeping the water out of his mouth. Valuable lesson learned! Davis will sleep anywhere! This was one of his many naps on the boat with Beth's IPod blaring in the back.
"WAR EAGLE!"
Davis is not happy in the water on your hip... he must be level with the water so he can splash. I'll have to get a video of it next time.
I keep a little blow up boat on the boat so if the jelly fish are bad I can fill the float up with water for him to stay cool and play with his toys. He loves it!
Again, another nap.
Um, um good! I love that salt water!!! Notice the tongue. His teeth are so close to popping out, he now chews on his tongue non-stop.

Visit with Dawson and Marsha

The Taylors came in town this week for vacation and we got to go play with them for a little bit this weekend. Dawson is almost 3 now and is so much fun! He was in Sunday School a few weeks back and the kids were learning about baby Moses. They cut out pictures of baby Moses in the basket and glued them on sponges so the pictures would float. When Marsha picked him up she asked "What did ya'll learn about today Dawson?" Dawson said, "God." Marsha asked who the baby in the basket was and Dawson said "Baby Davis!!!" How cute is that!!! All of my friends babies refer to Davis as "Baby Davis" I wonder if he'll ever outgrow that title? I sure hope not!

This is Suzanne, Marsha's mom. She's like another mom to me!
Davis loved Dawson's floaties! Dawson got tired of Davis' obsession with his floaties, haha!
But they hugged and made up! We had so much fun playing with the Taylors!!!

YEAH!!! We're Back!!

I gave up on John bringing the connector cords home, so I just bought another camera. Nipped that in the bud, haha! I still have some pictures on "his" camera so if and when he brings it home, I promise I will download them. The pictures below are all from this Friday. I wanted to reassure mom that Davis is still the same fun loving, happy baby that he was Monday before he started school. Nobody really explains to you just how hard the first week of daycare is for the mom. I cried so much this week, my eyes are still burning but it is getting better everyday. Davis is in a really good school and his teachers are wonderful! The hardest part is just knowing he does not have the one on one attention that he is used to. He seems to really enjoy school and it is fun watching him stare in awe at the other babies.

" I am trying so hard to crawl!!! I think I made it 3 feet on this attempt."

"What cha doin' Fletcher???"

Davis still loves his exersaucer. He finds a new toy on it everyday and it is like a totally new thing to him!

6 Month Check Up and School

I still am not able to coordinate with John to get the camera attachment on a day that I can sit down and download new pictures. I promise, promise, promise they are coming! Davis had his 6 month checkup today and is looking great! He weighed in at
21 pounds (95th Percentile)
28 inches (95th Percentile)
and I can never remember his head circumference, but again he is in the 95th Percentile!!!
BIGGGGG BOYYYYY!!!!!!!
We also started school this week! Davis was not supposed to get into The Roane School until December, but there was an opening for the beginning of September. It is such a blessing in many ways because it saves us a lot of money and it is really a great school!!! His main teachers are Miss Barbara and Miss Valerie. He seems to really like it and I have been pleased with his demeanor at the end of the day. He is completely exhausted, but is still same old sweet, happy baby boy! I miss (and I know Davis misses) his Aunt Beth keeping him!!! She has been such a blessing and asset to our family over the past 3 months and I could not have made it without her. It is so reassuring to have someone that loves him almost as much as you watch him all day. Hopefully though, the free time that Beth has now will allow her more time to do things that she has given up over the last few months. Beth, thank you, thank you, thank you!!! We love you and miss having you watch over our little angel!
